BMV Registration
BMV Registration
Thorndike has an excise tax agreement with Burnham, Knox and Troy. What this means if Thorndike Town Office is closed and you cannot wait to register your car, you can go to one of the above offices to register your car. If Thorndike is open then you SHOULD NOT being going to other towns.
This is a cortesy between towns and should not be abused
As always when registering your car you MUST bring the following with you:
RE_REG:
1. Old Reg
2. Insurance card (You can have it faxed to 207-568-3653) (SR22 be prepared to wait while clerk gets confirmation- before 4p.m.)
It is not the Town Clerks responsibility to get your proof of insurance for you, no proof of insurance no registration. IT IS THE LAW
3. Current Mileage
NEW REG:
All of the above plus:
4. If it is adealer sale (dealer bill of sale and Title application (wite copy) must have previous title number in box #15 or cannot process).
5. Private sale: be prepared to pay sales tax, have the title with previous owners signature in the correct spot, be prepared to fill out a title application.
Sometimes registrations can take a little time, so NO new reg. after 1/2 hour before closing.
Check your paperwork before coming and be sure you have it all. This helps expedite the process so much quicker. Although town clerks work miracles, it is not the responsibility of the clerk to get this information for you.
