Town of Thorndike Positions Available
Town Sexton- The sexton appointed annually by the Select Board to manage burials and iterpret lot boundaries for current and prospective lot oweners. The Sexton will instruct all grave diggers, both professional and authorized lay persons of the deceased, on access routes, location and standards for digging and repait=ring gravesites. The secton will be the official with whom the funeral parlors, vasult companies ans authorized persons of the decased making funeral arrangments. The sexton will also be familiar with rules realted to private burial grounds and advise towns people upon request of thier options and the procedure involved. Anu compaensation for the sexton will be voted upon at the annual Town Meeting. The Sexton may also be a memeber of the Cemetery Committee, they are not to be considered incompatible postions.
Assistant Code Enforcement Officer Appointment: The appointment of the CEO shall be the responsibility of the Selectmen. The appointment shall be annual and made by June 1st of each year. The Selectmen, at their discretion, may also appoint a Deputy Code Enforcement Officer to be available at any time the Code Enforcement Officer is not Training: The CEO will take the necessary training as mandated and offered by the State.
Planning Board (2 positions available)
1.A. Appointments to the board shall be made by the municipal officers.
1.B. The board shall consist of 5 members, as passed by the residents at a special town meeting on July 3, 2024.
1.C. The term of each member shall be 5 years. Members may be reappointed to successive terms. Those 5 members serving on the planning board at the time this amendment becomes effective shall be considered to have been properly appointed until their respective terms of office expire. All actions taken by the board prior to the effective date of this amendment are hereby declared to be the bona fide acts of the planning board of the Town of Thorndike.
1.D. When there is a permanent vacancy, the municipal officers shall within 60 days of its occurrence appoint a person to serve for the unexpired term. A vacancy shall occur upon the resignation or death of any member, or when a member ceases to be a voting resident of the town, or when a member fails to attend four (4) consecutive regular meetings or fails to attend at least 75% of all meetings during the preceding twelve (12) month period. When a vacancy occurs, the chairperson of the board shall immediately so advise the municipal officers in writing. The board may recommend to the municipal officers that the attendance provision be waived for cause, in which case no vacancy will then exist until the municipal officers disapprove the recommendation. The municipal officers may remove members of the planning board by unanimous vote, for cause, after notice and hearing.
1.E. Not more than 1 municipal officer may serve as a member. All members shall be residents of the Town of Thorndike
