Town of Thorndike is presently seeking to fill the following positions:

Town Sexton -

• Physical Ability: Must be capable of performing heavy physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions, including digging graves, landscaping, and lifting, sometimes in excess of 50 lbs.
• Equipment Operation: Experience operating and maintaining machinery such as tractors, backhoes, loaders, mowers, and power tools (chainsaws, trimmers).
• Experience: Previous experience in landscaping, construction, grounds maintenance, or cemetery operations is preferred.
• Record-Keeping & Administrative Skills: Ability to maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date cemetery records, maps, and plot ownership files.
• Communication & Compassion: Strong interpersonal skills to work with grieving families, funeral directors, and town officials with empathy and professionalism.
• Knowledge of Regulations: Familiarity with state "Dig Safe" laws and cemetery regulations (e.g., in Maine, familiarity with Maine Old Cemetery Association (MOCA) standards is sometimes required).
• Licensing & Age: Must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, and be authorized to work in the United States

Town Grave Digger -

• Grave Preparation: Marking, digging, and backfilling graves, as well as setting up for committal services.
• Interment Services: Coordinating with funeral directors for burials, including weekends and holidays.
• Stone Maintenance: Assisting with the placement of monuments and ensuring proper care of headstones
